This weekend Chestnut Sprout Farm went live from downtown Monterey @ the Curly Maple! ! Working the festival and being apart of the community was a blast. So thankful to Cappie Hull for letting us set up in the Curly Maple....and we were even on the radio!!!!
Simple chemical free laundry detergent. 1 cup of arm & hammer washing powder, 1 cup of borax, 1 bar of ivory soap shaved and lemon essential oil. FRESH!!!CLEAN!!!!!
Here on the farm we have been busy trying our luck at tapping maple trees.....So far no sap....We were able to get a little when we first tapped the trees, but nothing more yet......Cross your fingers!!!! We were able to add a few plum trees and Juneberries to our mix this week though. Planted 2 American Plums, 2 Chicksaw Plums and 6 Juneberries!! OH YEAH!!! There will be more to come!!!!
Thanks for your comment. Let know about your experiences! This fall we have been attending seminars on non timber forest products and syrup production. A personal frustration for me personally is that honey can be sold without a certified kitchen, but syrup is not classified as the same...WHAT???? IT IS JUST BOILED DOWN SAP PEOPLE!!! Nothing to spoil or go bad...just Appalachian goodness!!
I awoke this morning to the sound of a cold soaking rain....the earth so desperately needs it, but I am still wishing for snow. The first snow is so fresh and exciting!! Full of adventure and life. If it were warmer and my seeds were planted the rain would bring forth life. Today will be a day spent in the workshop. Dreaming of new creations to bring to our customers. We are busy building spice racks..and waiting on our fresh herbs to emerge to pick and fill them of course!! When we moved into this space, we had to completely downsize. Our new shop is a third of the size of the old one and most of our fancy tools were sold. We can still provide custom products at your request, and would love to!! We are back to basics and rebuilding day by day. Hoping to add a Shopsmith soon. This is a fantastic all in one tool that will answer our space and building needs. Thinking about Spring Shows.....
Wow! It is 60 degrees out here on the farm today!! As we enter into the new year that is upon us, we have been thinking a great deal about returning to our natural rhythm. Getting back to living in harmony with nature and our surroundings. You are probably thinking...."Wow! You guys are just now having this thought??"...Actually no. This thought is a re-occuring theme in our lives. One that we enter, float away from, and then return to again. The demands of our lives and society make it difficult at times to remain in tune. It is however, a place that I wish to stay. We will celebrate the ever changing seasons this year by tapping our own trees for syrup. What better way to walk with nature? How will you choose to enter into the new year??
"The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The Oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg, and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities."- James Allen
We have integrated Tye River Rustics into our farm. We are now Chestnut Sprout Farm, and couldn't be more excited. We are a forest farm specializing in non-timber forest products.
